Glucosinolates are special phytonutrients that serve as the chemical source for a large number of cancer-protective substances.

Brussels sprouts stem contain four glucosinolates which are anti-canceric:

  1.         Glucobrassicin
  2.         Gluconasturtiian
  3.         Sinigrin
  4.         Glucoraphanin

Sinigrin, in particular, appears to cause cancer cells to self-destruct.

For the three-week study, researchers analyzed the effect of Brussels sprouts on two groups of healthy men.  One group ate 300 grams of Brussels sprouts each day, while the other group ate a diet devoid of all cruciferous vegetables.   There was 28% decrease in DNA damage in the group who took Brussels sprout daily.

“Fill the bottom of a steamer pan with two inches of water.  If Brussels sprouts are cut into quarters, steam for 6 minutes. Cooked sprouts are crisp, mild in sweetness and a bright, “green” in color. Add  a few black seeds in the dish as it is the potent cure for every disease.
